A top Toronto-based Doctor has stated how the testing of some residents for the latest coronavirus that has attacked numerous individuals in China has proved the effectiveness of the system, and should not be something to worry over.
On Friday, Dr. Eileen de Villa, Medical Officer of Health, commented while at a news conference together with other public health officials.
While she did not mention the exact number of individuals which had been tested for the coronavirus regionally, she pointed out how there has not been a single confirmed case in Canada. She added how, locally, there is low risk to residents.
She stated how she expects to see individuals tested and added that this should not be a surprise. She stated that this is the system at work. In case of suspected occurrences, it briefly happens that the individuals are examined and then tested. She added that this is what they do every day. It is a main public health duty and they fully comprehend that even if such a case does come up it will be dealt with as it usually is.
830 confirmed occurrences of the virus have been reported by Chinese officials since coronavirus’s first detection the previous month. There have been 25 deaths. Chinese officials have also stated how they are examining over 1,000 suspected occurrences.
The dramatic spread of the coronavirus has paved the way for some comparisons with the SARS outbreak in 2003 which led to the death of as many as 800 individuals around the globe and dozens in Toronto alone. Officials have, however, reassured hoe the situation is not like that considering how lab results have come around at a faster pace and there is improved communication among health establishments.
