China is well-known for its stealthy nature in most of the dealing across the world. People across the world still doubt the figures given by China of approximately 4,600 people dead due to the coronavirus outbreak. The pandemic originated in Wuhan in Hubei province in China. However, China remained silent about the coronavirus pandemic initially. It only declared that the disease is contagious around January 20 and by then the damage has been already done by the virus.

This nature of China has gained it international backlash. Many of the health experts believe that if China would have acted promptly the disease would not have spread. Worldwide, more than five million people have been infected by the COVID-19 virus.

Beijing recently admitted that it lacked transparency in dealing with the coronavirus crises. Had the transparency been better, China would have fought against the virus in a much organised manner. China acknowledged that the healthcare system in their country need to be revamped majorly to handle the infectious virus.

After 2003, when SARS broke out in China, the government has promised to improve its healthcare services. However, with the outbreak of coronavirus it indicated that China still needs to go a long way to improve the healthcare facilities.

Premier Li Keqiang, the second most powerful man in China, stated that many weak links has been exposed in the Chinese public health management system. He further added that the Chinese government will do its best to live up to people’s expectations and to do so the system will have to be significantly strengthened. Mr. Li also accepted that the early warning procedures have to put in place in future to restrict the spread of any infection. He added that the information regarding any outbreak would be provided timely and transparently.

Mr. Li stated that after seeing the situation in the current pandemic, the Chinese government is planning to raise the budget for medical research and health facilities. Two new health policies has been released in China- Health-in-all and OneHealth. The Health-in-all policy is aim to hold the decision makers accountable to improve the medical facilities. OneHealth will bring all segments of the health workers working to improve the healthcare systems under one roof. So this is a platform under which government, scientists, lawmakers, researchers, and other medical professionals will work together.
